I first downloaded this 10 years ago and went back to it today after I became frustrated with duolingo. It's changed alot, obviously "borrowing" UI and methods from duolingo, which are the good parts. However, Hello Chinese is way more effective at teaching the language. It takes time to explain the foundation of what you are learning, lessons are more cohesive, native speakers are used to teach pronunciation. It is better in almost every way, even for the free version. I will likely upgrade

I find the lessons more better taught than in Duolingo though a little short. That just makes me complete more lessons though. The additional learning content is awesome as I get to learn about the culture and the actual way the language is spoken/used. However, I've only just started and I'm a beginner in Mandarin so I can't say about the further levels.

So far, so. good! I feel like I'm learning so much with the free version, I might opt for the premium one year plan soon. I love the variety of lesson types. My vocabulary is growing, I get to hear and practice pronounciation and I am especially excited about learning the characters, which I am doing great with! I also think the short lesson format works great because you can squeeze in a quick lesson anytime i want, or I can do many in a row if time allows. So excited about my progress!
